There have been many great days throughout history… but what was the GREATEST day in all of history?
A search on Google for "the greatest day in history" revealed this amongst the first few results.
World War I did not end neatly with the Germans' surrender. After a dramatic week of negotiations, military offensives, and the beginning of a Communist revolution, the German Imperial regime collapsed. The Allies eventually granted an armistice to a new German government, and on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, the guns officially ceased fire - but only after 11,000 more casualties had been sustained. The London Daily Express proclaimed it "the greatest day in history".
Now that was some day, especially after 4 years of the 'war to end all wars'. Of course we still remember this date (11th November) and the many who gave up their lives for our freedom. We know this date as Armistice Day, or Veterans Day or Remembrance Day, depending on the country in which you live. In many parts of the world, people observe two consecutive minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m. as a sign of respect. The first minute for the 20 million who died in the war, and the second minute for the living left behind (parents, wives and children of those who were killed).
As a believer in Jesus Christ I would like to propose another great day in history. And as this is our Easter Thought, I'm sure we're all thinking of the same day. Of course, I'm talking about that morning when the crucified Jesus physically rose from death and conquered sin. It may have been over 2,000 years ago but it remains the greatest day in all of history.
Rather than me witter on (as in most of my Thoughts), I have included a song below that sums up what I wanted to say about that Easter morning.
The song is by Tim Hughes and is called "The greatest day in history"…
The greatest day in history, death is beaten
You have rescued me
Sing it out Jesus is alive
The empty cross, the empty grave
Life eternal, You have won the day
Shout it out - Jesus is alive
He's alive!
Oh happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh happy day, happy day
I'll never be the same
Forever I am changed
When I stand, in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face
I am Yours, Jesus You are mine
Endless joy, perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate - Jesus is alive
He's alive
Oh what a glorious day
What a glorious way
That You have saved me
Oh what a glorious day
What a glorious name!
I would like to dedicate this Thought to a remarkable young man from Belfast and to his family. Jonny Tate lost his fight with life on 14th October 2012 after undergoing a heart transplant in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. "The greatest day in history" was played at Jonny's funeral as it was a favourite song of his. A committed Christian, Jonny is now in his heavenly home, free from pain and all the struggles of life. We in 'the Grove' will continue to remember his family, especially his parents, Alan and Patricia and his brother Chris.
So here is Tim Hughes and "The greatest day in history". Turn on your sound and click on the YouTube link below…
Until next month then (DV)…
