One of my Fatherly duties over the Christmas period is to watch the new DVDs with the children. The older children have had me watching Mission Impossible 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean. With my youngest child it was Cars and I have “Over the Hedge” still to come.
I have to stay I started to watch Cars with a great big yawn but I enjoyed the story and the characters in this children’s movie. My son has many of the cars that featured in the movie. I was quizzing him as to their names. If you have young children then you probably will have watched the movie at some time and may recognise come of the characters.
Best known is Lightning Mc Queen he is the star of the show, Sally is a beautiful Porsche and is easily recognisable. He also had no bother with the police car and the Hudson Hornet. I then asked him who was this tiny little forklift he looked at me and said “Daddy that’s nobody.”
The little forklift is called Guido and he dreams of being part of a pit crew in a big race. As far as my young son was concerned he was nobody. In the recent New Years honours list many people were recognised for services rendered. We are often told that many unknowns and nobodies receive recognition. The truth is that most honours still go to the rich and famous as well as senior civil servants.
When I read the Bible I see that we have a God who takes interest in nobodies. We could mention the Virgin Mary, she was a nobody but God used her to bring Christ into the world. The shepherds were nobodies and yet they were the first to see the little baby. When it comes to salvation we read.
1 Tim. 2:4 "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth"
When it comes to service God is looking for the nobodies to carry out his work.
1 Cor. 1:26-29 "For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: [27] But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; [28] And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: [29] That no flesh should glory in his presence"
I am glad that God loves the nobodies in the world.
