ONE of the most famous and successful men in this age of reality shows and instant celebrity is Simon Cowell. His television programmes are among the most popular in British television and across the Atlantic in the USA. The ‘X-Factor’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘American Idol’ have been tremendous successes and he has amassed a great fortune in the process.
Simon Cowell, like all of us, is mortal, although recently he is reported to have come up with a scheme to cheat death. He is reported to have said the following: “I have decided to freeze myself when I die. You know, cryonics.” He told fellow diners: “You pay a lot of money and get stuck in a deep freeze once you have been declared dead. Medical science is bound to work out a way of bringing us back to life in the next century, or so and I want to be available when they do.”
This seemingly fanciful process was perhaps used most famously on Han Solo - in carbonite - during the 1980 Star Wars movie, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. It does actually take place away from the big screen, with official figures suggesting around 160 people have already been frozen in liquid nitrogen at minus 200C, with a further 1,000 signed up worldwide, including 100 in England.
Cowell justifies this decision by claiming his resurrection would help out the British public. “I would be doing the nation an invaluable service,” he reportedly explained, with true humility!
I am sure that Simon Cowell’s supposed remarks were a little bit tongue in cheek. However, should he wish to have eternal life, there is a way:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It doesn’t involve cryonics, rather it involves the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said of all who put their trust in Him:
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.
If Simon Cowell's plans were possible, only the very rich would be able to afford such a scheme. Thank God eternal life is available to all of us, regardless of our financial standing. And the Apostle Paul reminds us that salvation is free to all who believe...
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
