Euro 2004 has over the past few weeks broken many football fans hearts. Tears have flowed as team after team had to go home empty handed.
The team who was knocked out first was Russia. No doubt this is not an achievement they are proud of.
I came across one of the saddest stories relating to Euro 2004, I must warn you that I am being a little sarcastic!
One news agency had carried the following story. Victoria Beckham has turned her back on the Portuguese hotel reserved for the England football squad's wives and girlfriends. Players' partners are putting up at the swish Penha Longa complex outside Lisbon for the duration of the Euro 2004 tournament.
But ex-Spice Girl Victoria, 30, will not be joining them. Instead, she has rented a luxury villa, where she will stay with sons Brooklyn, five, and one-year-old Romeo.
That sounds fine but then Victoria after so much negative publicity had a change of heart.
After being accused of snubbing her fellow football wives, Victoria, tried to take a room at the resort but was told it was fully booked, the Portuguese tabloid 24Horas reported. "We received calls from people connected to Mrs Beckham requesting a room, but we simply have none free", a spokesman for the resort told the paper. "All our rooms have been booked for weeks".
Victoria, formerly Posh of the Spice Girls, has returned to the luxury condo in Cascais which is close to the hotel which the England team is using as its base camp during the three-week tournament, the paper said.
How sad it was that Poor Victoria was turned away from the hotel because there was no room.
I was thinking about Jesus Christ and how Mary and Joseph were turned away because there was no room in the inn.
Luke 2:7 "And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn"
When we think about the Son of God becoming a man that he might die for your sins and mine it should touch our hearts.
2 Cor. 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him"
I wonder as you read this article have you made room in your life for Jesus Christ?
Have you "turned away" the Lord of Glory?
I have good news for you the Lord Jesus Christ will never turn you away. If you come and trust him as your saviour, repenting of your sin he will accept you.
Listen to the words of Christ in John’s gospel.
John 6:37 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out"
Let me leave you with the words of a well known hymn...
Have you any room for Jesus,
He who bore your load of sin?
As He knocks and asks admission,
Sinner, will you let Him in?
Are you SURE that you have your place booked in Heaven? Read this if you're not!
