How ecstatic London was after the marvellous news that it had been awarded the 30th Olympiad. What joy, what celebration in many areas of the city as the biggest prize in sport was coming to this great city.
How horrific that within twenty four hours the city was in mourning after the terrorist attacks of the 7th July. The feelings that one had after the Sept 11th attack come flooding back and we realise how vulnerable we are. Innocent people going about their daily activities have had their lives cut short or ruined through injury.
The city of London and indeed the whole country were rocked by these attacks. People were literally shaking after the experience. The financial institutions are shaking with stock prices falling again showing how fragile our world seems to be.
I want to bring a word of encouragement in the midst of this disaster. There are many things that terrorists can shake, buildings, hopes, lives even the resolve of the government can be shaken.
The Bible talks in Hebrews about things that cannot be shaken. If you know and love the Saviour you can take comfort form this.
Hebrews 12:27 "Those things which cannot be shaken may remain"
God cannot be shaken; He is immutable.
Malachi 3:6 "For I am the Lord, I change not"
The Bible cannot be shaken; it is infallible.
Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away"
Our relationship with Christ, if we are saved, cannot be shaken; it is inseparable.
Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"
In a world, which can be so easily shaken, we can have a saviour who offers us a firm foundation and things, which cannot be shaken. Have you accepted his free gift yet?
No matter what the terrorist plans or perpetrates we are assured that God is still on the throne.
God is still on the throne,
And He will remember His own;
Tho’ trials may press us
and burdens distress us,
He never will leave us alone
