"Does anyone know God's telephone number?" It was a strange question to ask at a Bible Study and perhaps that's why I still remember the answer. I'll get to this later.
Communication is a wonderful thing. My wife seems to do it much better than me, although she gets in a lot more practice! Incidentally, it has been stated that on average a woman uses around 13,000 more words in a day than a man uses. Perhaps we men are just more efficient. Controversial!
As humans, we were designed to communicate and we will become annoyed, insular, stressed or even deranged if we can't do so over a prolonged period of time. This is why solitary confinement is used as a punishment or even as a form of torture. And when we need help, the first thing we do instinctively is to shout out (or phone) for help. My kids (as teenagers) used to harangue me for not answering my mobile phone every time they phoned. When they needed help they figured I should be on standby to provide that help or instant advice.
Going back to Gods telephone number, the answer given to us that night was 333. Easy to remember too! It comes from the Bible, from Jeremiah 33:3, hence the answer…
"Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)
This wonderful promise from God was given to Jeremiah when he was in prison on false pretences. In Jeremiah's hour of need, God reminded him that He was only a call or a shout or a prayer away! Not only that, but God was promising to show him fabulous things which, as yet, he would have had no idea about.
Just when Jeremiah was at his worse, God was at His best!
If you are a child of God and are seeking to please Him in your life, then I can tell you that God will hear and answer you when you call out to Him. We won't get a busy tone. We won't get a wrong number. We won't get an unanswered call. At some stage we will all go through times of anguish, times of depression, or of mourning, or pain, or loneliness, or weakness. God will be there for all of us.
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall rescue you, and you will honour Me."
(Psalm 50:15)
God loves us. Remember how He even let His Son die for us! Let us ensure that we remember Him and honour Him and speak with Him often, not just in the times of distress.
And if you don't know of this loving God? Then please read the link at the bottom of this Thought or feel free to get in touch with us at any time.
God is both our Creator and our heavenly Father and we were designed for fellowship and communion with Him, both now and for all eternity.
